Blake Baker interviewed for Tulane HC

And crushed it, I heard.

Was hoping he'd break out into cold sweats and yell Geaux Tigers while running out. Apparently it's his job to lose.

DJ Durkin has worked with Lane before and Auburn just shot him down for HC. Hmm...

I hate to see him go, but when he joined our staff, people said not to expect him to be here beyond 4 years, he was head coach material. They don't give you a big program for your first HC job. I remember when Mack Brown left as OC he went to App State to be head coach. He did a good job and was on his way. He got real lucky when he signed Vince Young at Texas and Vince won him a natty. Vince was chaffing under Brown's coaching, they had a talk and Vince asked him to back off. Mack did back off and Vince's talent won the natty. I wonder if that didn't hurt Vince in the long run, as by his own admission, he didn't study hard enough with the Tenn. Titans and eventually lost his job and then couldn't even hold a backup job in the NFL. Mack didn't do much after Vince left.

He went from HC at App State to OC at Oklahoma (under Champaign Barry) then was HC at Tulane.

Tulane has a history of being a stepping stone for head coaches. Some notables include:
  • Larry Smith (went on to be HC of Arizona, USCw, and Missouri)
  • Mac Brown (North Carolina - twice - and Texas)
  • Buddy Teevens (later became Stanford's HC)
  • Tommy Bowden (Clemson)
  • Willie Fritz (Houston)
  • Jon Sumrall (Florida)

he only went 45-8 over the next 5 years after Vince left with a BCS CG appearance and another BCS Bowl win.
He had 4 good years after Vince left, then went 30-21 the four years after that. Mack resigned as head coach after a meeting with the U. President. Most think he was pressured to resign. They made it very nice for a coach that had won them a natty, but stepping down was not his idea.

You're both right lol.

Vince Young's departure was absolutely not the end of Mack's success though. He led them to the bcsncg with Colt McCoy who was injured early in the game, or he may have had another natty after Vince. He absolutely did well after Vince for the next 4-5 years, but sure, after that, fell off.

Why are we talking about Mack Brown again lol?
