So for the 2025 Fiscal year, LSU athletics as a whole turned a profit of $3.8 million.

Sounds great, not gonna lie.
But let's move forward with new rules in place beginning with the fall of 2026 Semester.

Starting in fall of 2025, Revenue sharing is coming to college athletics.
LSU is reportedly going to pay out the full amount allowed by the rules ... $21.5 million

also beginning in the fall, everyone on Athletics rosters will be allowed to be on scholarship.
using the sports LSU currently sponsors, that coulee as many as 291 additional scholarships.
with an average annual cost of $28,960.00 per scholarship (according to Google), that's another $6.2 million.

so LSU will be potentially adding as much as $27.7 million to the expenses column.

which would put LSU at a deficit of $23.9 million for the year

something seriously has to change for this to be sustainable.

According to the WSJ, LSU is the 4th most valuable football program.

As for me, I couldn't care less about all this. I just watch the games and enjoy them. I don't care where the money comes from

i don’t care where it comes from either.
but i want it to continue to exist, so i care THAT the money comes.

Why would any school pay out revenue they don't make? If they are supposed to share the profits with player, then they should actually make the profit

Why would any school pay out revenue they don't make? If they are supposed to share the profits with player, then they should actually make the profit

because the US Government got involved.
and specifically worded it as sharing “revenue”, not sharing “profits”.

But did the gov't say how much they should get? If not, then keep it withing means

no, they gave a cap on the maximum a school can give, but not a number that "had to" be met.

so it's up to the schools themselves to keep it "within means"
but they really can't do that collectively or else they would all be guilty of collusion and would absolutely lose in a court room.

so now it's up to the individual schools.
and as long as the school you're competing with is spending that, you pretty much have to as well or you're left behind.
