College Football Playoff 2025

I watched Ole Miss vs. Georgia Sugar Bowl. Ga. has won so much I was pulling for OM. Kirby Smart took one of the dumbest chances I have seen with 9:30 to go in the game, Ga. trailing 27-24, ball on the Ga. 32, 4th down and 2, and Ga. decides to go for it. They failed. OM drives it in and takes a 10 point lead. Kirby gave OM an easy score. Ga. did manage to tie the game up but OM drove to field goal range for their excellent kicker from La., he made the field goal and OM won.

Both of those were enjoyable to watch for the reasons you stated above.

I was also happy to see what our offense next year might look like given our new OC was calling plays for Ole Miss.

The Bama bias by the selection committee will hopefully be re-calibrated soon. I don't think they should have been included in the 12 team field (nor should Tulane, JMU, or Texas Tech in my opinion have been included).

Indiana is impressive (at least right now). I like seeing new teams earn their way to advancement.

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Bama humiliated. I had mixed feeling about the Sugar bowl but I guess I am glad OM won. Even though i went to school there, i dont want them to win the CFP. I kinda would like to see Indiana get it

the field should have only been 7 deep this year.
but if we going to 12, then I think they probably should have been in that group.

agreed on the Group 5 teams, but Texas Tech was absolutely deserving to be in based on their regular season.

yes, their schedule was on the weak side, but they beat the living piss out of that weak schedule (other than the one game without their starting QB).

also, people need to start realizing that the SEC is not head and shoulders above the rest of the country any more.
I've been saying for a couple years now that the gap is closing. And well, it's closed.

over the last 3 seasons, the SEC is 2-5 against the other Power 4 conferences in the playoffs and 15-17 overall in bowl games.

no, I don't care what the human polls say ("oh look at all the ranked SEC teams"), I can see with my own eyes that the gap is gone.

oh, and both of those playoff wins were by a team playing their first season in the SEC.
so the SEC that created that gap is 0-4 in playoffs last 2 seasons.

I don't disagree but there's a lot that skews things.

Houston was, what, 10-3?

Beat 7-6 LSU with 6 starters missing on defense and an absolute garbage offense.

Congrats, I guess?

That's pretty common in those lower end bowls.

and i knew that retort was coming.
which is why i specifically pointed out the playoffs.

Anyone else catch the announcer in the Ole Miss v UGA game inadvertently call Kewan Lacy as "Kyren Lacy"? He quickly corrected himslef.

I watched all of the Miami / Ole Miss game, and it was very good. Thanks to Miami for knocking out OM. Now we can get all of our offensive coaches working the portal for US.

It was an excellent game.

Now that Ole Miss is out of the playoffs, we might see some of their players enter the portal. There has been a spin going around to try to cast shade on Kiffin that none of his former players want to follow him to LSU.

We'll see what happens now that they have been eliminated.

I watched the whole Indiana / Oregon game. Oregon was not competitive. Indiana is well coached, their defensive front 7 are not the biggest, but they are quick and with all of their stunts they are very hard to block. Mendoza looked like a Heisman winner, very accurate, and he can scramble a little. I was glad Indiana won, they have not won anything since WW II. They said Indiana had 8 4* and 5* players on their team. Oregon had many more, like 30.

Interesting

AI Overview

"Coach Curt Cignetti, the head football coach at
Indiana University, emphasizes work-life balance for his coaching staff and demands that his assistants leave the office by 7:00 PM and take one day off per week. [1]

This policy is intended to prevent burnout and ensure the staff can be productive during their working hours. [1] Cignetti's philosophy is rooted in the belief that spending excessive, inefficient hours at the office does not necessarily equate to success and that well-rested coaches perform better. "

Last night during the game, the announcers said some of his assistants have already turned down big salary increases to stay with Cignetti because the work / life balance means a lot to them.

He could very well be the next Saban. Evidence that you don't have to throw millions around to produce elite results. Building his own coaching tree will add tremendous value to his staff. Eventually money will get in the way, so maybe grow more corn

I thought the bammer win was just exposing the gumps. May be a little with the ducks as well, but they still play elite and I think no matter how strong that U defense is, Indy is taking it to the house. Should be a fun game to watch. At least the first half...

i think he’s too old to be the next Saban.
doesn’t have enough years left in the tank to pull that sort of run.
I agree to that point, but winning % and maybe a couple of ships will give him the comparison. He's still gotta win this one and THEN turn into a reload center. But he has the makings to exude that standard. Folks gonna take him more serious now. See how he lives up

NEW: Nick Saban on Curt Cignetti to On3's Chris Low: “I remember him telling me where he was going, IUP, and thinking that’s a big drop from coaching in the SEC. But he wanted to be a head coach. ...it tells you a lot about the belief he had in himself that he would take a job at that level at a place that hadn’t had great success. But that’s what he’s done his whole career, take programs that weren’t football hotbeds and turn them into winners.”
---------------------------------------

Last night during the game, the announcers said Cignetti took a pay cut from $300K per year to $150K per year to go to IUP in order to show what he could do as a head coach. They said his wife said "you're gonna do WHAT???".

Cignetti signed an 8 year deal with Indiana at $11.6 million per year, through 2033. He's 64 now, doubt he goes to 2033, but he's there as long as he wants to be. Sometimes you have to take a detour, a step back to show what you can do with more responsibility, in order to move forward.
