Game Topic: LSU @ ALabama (11.8.25)

Overall, we played more like LSU, as disappointing as it always is to lose to Bama.

Unfortunately, our OL woes continued.

Personally, I am sick of the team being built around marketing campaigns like "The Path" and all of the completely off the mark stuff we were fed prior to the start of the season that we were a championship caliber team led by a Heisman favorite.

We simply were not - and if you want to put butts in the seats - put a championship caliber product on the field.

I love Nussmeier's heart as a tiger, but I think he overestimates the effectiveness of his arm as being world class and I think that overconfidence is what leads to some of his frustrating decision making. His "gunslinger mindset" has put us in trouble many more times than it has actually bailed us out.

Aside from the Mannings, how many college QBs with NFL pedigrees have actually been elite in college? Methinks that number is pretty low in reality and I hope our recruiters can start looking past that.

Our last 2 Heisman winners were not sons of NFL starting or backup NFL QBs. Jim Burrow was a DB briefly in the NFl and not a QB. Jayden Daniel's dad did not have a pro career.

I think with Nussmeier, a lot of mythology was built around the fact that his dad had an NFL career and is currently an NFL Offensive Coordinator (whose team is doing poorly right now). Same with Max Johnson when he was here...there was a lot of hype because his dad was an NFL starter at the position.

Let's move on from looking for QBs with NFL pedigrees and get some that actually have the stats and leadership from their own performance instead.

I'm NOT saying we should stop recruit kids like Mason Taylor because their dad played in the NFL...we just need to weight that more realistically in the light of their own attributes and productivity.

Again, I love Nuss' heart but at the end of the day I think his potential as a QB was over-hyped and ultimately over-marketed to us.

Rant over..

But then how did he have over 4000 passing yards last year? That's what i cant wrap my head around. Why is he so bad this year?

combination of things.

physically he wasn't really healthy all fall camp and early parts of the season.
limited what he could do.
then he got into his own head and spiraled from there.

combine that with shitty offensive game plans and coaching and it's a recipe for disaster.
