Game Topic: LSU VS Florida (2025)

No offense, but no offense. BK’s reaction to a legitimate question about the “no offense” after the game was shameful. He owes the questioner a formal and public apology. We pay you $10M and you better believe you’re going to have to answer tough questions @sshole! Nuss appears to have regressed from last year.

Flipping to the other side of the ball, we have a defense full of playmakers!!! When your best defensive player gets kicked out of the game and you don’t miss a beat, that says something. If we had this D in ‘23 we’d have another natty. Unfortunately unless the offense finds something it can do consistently, the D is going to have to carry the load this season.

I just got back from a week in Seagrove Fl. Weather was great, mornings were 68 degrees.

Good interviews. I was happy for Deshawn Spears. It has to hurt a little to see two touted transfers come in and nail down the two starting safety positions. Spears is just a soph, and if he watches a guy like Nuss, maybe he can see that his day will come. I'm glad to hear he is reacting positively, keeps working hard to improve.

You said a mouthful Hatch, and I could not agree more. I think we had 45 yards rushing until the last run where Durham gained 50 yards. A question about our difficulty running the ball was entirely appropriate, and Kelly brushed it off, "we can run the ball, did you see that 50 yard run". The game was over and some Fla. players were either tired or lost interest. We want to run the ball when the other team is really trying to stop us. Heck we lost 4 o-linemen to the NFL and we couldn't run the ball last year either. We even hired a new run game coordinator:

"LSU hired Alex Atkins as their new Tight Ends Coach and Run Game Coordinator in early 2025, with the goal of bolstering the team's rushing attack and elevating their run game, a move that coincided with the start of the 2025 season and the team's high expectations for competing in the SEC and for a national championship. Atkins, who has a background as a successful offensive coordinator and run game coordinator at Florida State, is expected to work alongside Offensive Coordinator Joe Sloan to focus on improving the team's rushing efforts. "

I did not like this post game conference by Kelly. I have generally liked Kelly, but not last night.

i think he went too far, but at same time agree with his sentiment.

we just won a very hard fought game against a hated rival.
and first questions are “what’s wrong”

yes there are definitely issues that need fixing, but can we at least have a moment or two to talk about us winning.

Our running game is somewhat anemic RIGHT NOW. But we basically have a "new" offensive line this year and it takes more than 3 games for OL units to start to mesh. We did have about 120 yards total rushing last night and I guess ideally having another 40-50 yards rushing total might quiet some.

It would have made zero difference if Durham's 50 yard run was his 1st run of the game in the grand scheme of things, but I think it WOULD have made a difference in the perception of fans and the media.

Overall, our biggest problem on offense overall is play calling (at least to me) followed by poor execution. That is a correctable problem.

On the question and Kelly's reaction...do you think that reporter would have asked a similar or identical question to Nussmeier? I don't think he would because that would largely be seen as a 'dick move' and I think the reason he asked the question to Kelly is because the reporter has an overall lack of respect for Kelly (as does much of our fan base).

The reporter said "No, I think people want to know why you can't run the ball, quite honestly.” That is a total dick question. Our fan base has psychotic expectations - they want a gaudy pass oriented offense that racks up 50+ points per game then bitch and moan about 'not being able to run the ball' (which would translate to an offense that couldn't sniff 30 points per game against quality opponents).

What will the press and the fan base be happy with? Should we have run up the score at the end instead of going into victory formation when we had 1st and goal late in the 4th quarter? I'd be willing to bet the same fans complaining about the offense would then complain that Brian Kelly was "classless" had we done so.

The state of Florida is one of the top 3 football talent producing states in the country (with Texas and Louisiana being the other two). Florida always has above average athletic talent on the field even if they can't get out of their own way with cycling through coaching staffs and systems. I was not surprised at all at the (perceived) "close" final score despite their QB throwing 5 INTs. This is always a hard-fought rivalry.

Bottom line: don't ask stupid questions that imply your team isn't good enough immediately after an emotional win against an SEC rival. If you do, be prepared for a dress down.

I agree on play calling, Sloan needs a different gig. Let him coach whatever he coaches but he should never call another play for LSU..

Main thing I disagree with is Nuss regressing.

I'll point out an example from my re-watch of the game. A receiver (rb) going where the ball was supposed to be, and for whatever reason with nobody around him, deciding to move right when Nuss starts the throw. So of course the throw looks like Nuss missed an easy pass. He didn't. It would've been an easy 1st down. There's other examples.

Anyway, if you think that disgusting interception signals regression, it doesn't. He did it last year multiple times. That looked identical to the TAMU game last year. Not regressing, just sometimes doing exactly what he did last year.

Our first two possessions started with 6+ yds on first down and resulted in 3 and outs. If we continually go backwards in a 3rd and 1, this is either a play call problem, an OL coaching problem, an RB coaching problem, or an execution problem.
ALL those things fall to the OC.

Regarding Kelly, his response was over the top, but Cauble is a douche nozzle and there's a pattern there with him constantly asking a negatively tilted question. My guess is he wanted Napier and is pissed BK is 3-1 against his dude. Eff him.
