The Cost of Firing Him

What will it take to fire Brian Kelly?

Don't act like it's not on your mind as an LSU fan. You watched the same crap I did tonight after you also heard him say we're spoiled, he has receipts, give me till year 3, and see you at the national championship.

I think it'll cost about $20,000,000/year to fire Kelly and his shitty staff.
So the question becomes, do you lose that much in revenue by keeping him? I think you absolutely do.

He can fire all the assistants he wants, but he's not winning this fan base back short of winning out. He talked too much shit and failed to come remotely close to backing it up.

I wonder if TAMU regrets buying out Jimbo?

Another question is...

What will it take to fire Scott Woodward?

He hired this clown 🤡.

Oh he’s definitely on the hot seat. At a minimum his offensive staff is toast. I certainly hope we do but I don’t believe we win out. So at the top although very unlikely 9-3. At the bottom 5-7. What record gets BK kicked out of the door this year?

Joe Sloan and Brad David have to be gone this week. Gives you two weeks to figure something out with the bye week. Like who's calling plays. Alex Atkins can coach the OL for now

The question is who do you replace him with and what will that cost? We're in the age of Monopoly Money contracts and hiring a known commodity is spensive.

  • There is the cost of paying Kelly and his entire staff for the duration of their contracts (assistants might not have big guarantees, though).
  • There is the cost of signing a Head Coach at current market prices for many years. There is competition for services among several high profile vacancies both inside and outside of the SEC with others likely opening up too.
  • There is a potential cost of paying a buyout for a currently employed head coach. Note that schools are also in the habit of extending contracts to their head coaches to prevent them from getting poached, which thins the candidate pool.)
Firing Woodward as well has costs associated. He has had 2 hits and 2 misses in his hirings (Kelly and McMahon). I understand the anger, but perhaps having him on a leash from a search firm might be the better play.

As for candidates, there are some (Saban, Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, Pete Carrol and others) that are under the radar of the press writers right now because they simply cannot think out of the box.

Currently employed coaches that I've seen listed are the usual 4 or 5 names with some being unproven at major programs:

  • Matt Rhule (likely going to Penn State)
  • James Franklin (please no)
  • Eli Drinkwitz (my witz go down when I drink)
  • Dan Mullen
  • Dan Lanning (Oregon has bank and won't let him leave, most likely)
  • Brent Key (Georgia Tech HC - not sure the track record is there yet?)
  • Rhett Lashlee at SMU
  • Matt Campbell at Iowa State
  • Jon Sumrall at Tulane (another potential small school gamble)
  • Marcus Freeman (ND fans would have even greater meltdowns...lol)

On your list, Drinkwitz and Sumrall pique my interest the most. On your list.

With Woody, he works for the BOS who is appointed by the governor. The governor is dropping bombs on X after the game. He's opposite Woody politically and has called him out before. I don't think Woody is long for this job but I'm OK if he is. Or is not.

1000%

Dan Mullen though???
The antithesis of a "fit" for LSU
Agree wholeheartedly.

Most of those I literally pulled from 2 articles I saw...not really my list but the "under the radar" ones were ones I thought about as being "out there" (meaning most of them are not currently in coaching right now) but could be possibilities.

I remember when a group of fans spent $5000 to put up a billboard in South Bend saying to fire Brian Kelly after his 4-8 season in 2016. Frankly, most of us were glad to see him go.

I’m sorry he’s become your problem. I wouldn’t wish that on any fan base. Except, of course, Michigan or Ohio State. 🙂
