Simple question without a simple answer.

vote above and discuss in this thread.

They get all of the credit when it goes right, HC gets the blame when it doesn’t. It’s his job to diagnose this and fix it. Any of the other choices are under him and thus part of his job. Except injuries which doesn’t control but is expected to identify them and find a solution. Talk is cheap.

I don't disagree completely with hatch.

I chose a combo though.

When the HC goes on national television a couple days after the game and points out the other team dropped 8 in coverage on NINETY % OF THEIR DEFENSIVE SNAPS, and you handed the ball to a RB twice in the first half, I'm sorry, but that's shit play calling!!

In no particular order...

1. OC for that shitty play calling

2. HC for not firing the OC at the half

3. The OL coach for having an OL that can't block three dudes with 5. EMBARRASSING!

4. Whatever is wrong with a dude that had the 2nd highest single season passing yds in school history just last season.

Regarding 4, idk anymore. I know he was injured. But then against SELA he didn't look injured and it doesn't matter if it was vs air, he still three accurately and strongly.

What I DO know is, Paul Mubenga got abused and hit Nuss' feet as he's trying to throw on that 50 yd pass to Zavion making him fall back as he throws. Go watch it. It's a walk in TD with just a decent throw. But there's a dude bouncing off Nuss' lower legs as he's trying to throw because we can't block 3 guys with 5 guys.

It is undoubtedly a combination of factors, but I voted for Joe Sloan. I think we have enough talent to be competitive. We went into the season saying we were going to run the ball, yet we don't. It's on the OC primarily to come up with effective schemes and gameplan. I don't see that going on.

For me it starts here.

There is a difference between what can and can't be done. We can't fire Kelly at this point in time of the program. But we CAN beef up the coaching staff. The thing hovering over that is "WHEN can we upgrade?"

Had the poll allowed multiple options, I would have chosen and Joe Sloan.

Since only one choice was allowed (and "It's all @BIG T 's fault" was not an option), I chose Brad Davis. (Just messing with you, bro.)

On paper, it appears Brad Davis can recruit. I'll caveat that by saying that NIL might be a disincentive to performance because some recruits are raking it in whether they perform on the field or not. With a collection of 3 and 4 star recruits with an occasional 5 star peppered in, ordinarily we'd have a hellacious OL.

Only it's obvious that we don't have one.

I respect the sentiment that the buck stops with the HC. Kelly seems like an asshole, but he's our asshole. (Yes, I openly yearn for oddballs that humble themselves by eating blades of grass from field turf, but I digress...)

Ultimately, holes need to be opened for a running game and defenders need to be blocked so Nuss has a few more precious seconds to set and throw. Kelly deserves blame, but Brad Davis is the battalion leader for that room and he is failing in his duties and responsibilities to have his unit battle ready on snap 1.

Studrawa and Grimes had the OL unit ready from the opening gun on 90%+ of most games. Can we say the same about Davis?

Davis has a Tiger heart, but I don't think he has the effectiveness for the job game in and game out.

On to Sloan...

I've seen more imaginative play calling on these:

I don't think Sloan has the gravitas to go up against the Pete Goldings, Kane Wonmacks, and Jay Bateman's of the SEC. And that is just a partial list.

Having said that, I can't help but think that an effective OL unit would mask playcalling shortcomings to some extent.

I need more alcohol for the next few games.

as I said in the podcast, I'm going with the combination as well.
  • Injuries - something is physically wrong with Nuss. Whether he is still injured, or it's a prior injury, I don't know. but his mechanics are off. his accuracy has been horrendous. he's under throwing everything (by a lot) and is struggling to lead receivers.
  • RB Coach - Frank Wilson is a master recruiter. But you have to go back to Fournette/Guice to find theist dominating back we had with him as RB coach. TV guys point out our RBs (Durham) missing holes completely, the RB rotation (typically falls on position coach) has been questionable at best most of the year.
  • OL Coach - Brad Davis has been OL coach for 2 head coaches and 3 offensive coordinators now. One common denominator across that entire span is we can not run the damn ball.
  • OC - Joe Sloan as mentioned by Fish, Ole Miss dropped 8 on over 90% of the snaps last week. And on only 1 of our 6 first half possessions did we had the ball off more than once. And it wasn't until partway through the 3rd quarter before we even attempted to establish a run game (Harlem Berry got 5 carries on 1 drive).
  • Head Coach - all of the above falls on the shoulders of the HC.
    • find a way to keep Frank involved in recruiting and get us a RB coach that knows how to rotate his guys and have his people hit the correct holes.
    • we have not been able to run the football (with a RB) since before Kelly got here. Last season, BK said the reason we don't run screens is because our OL would all be "downfield on roller skates not knowing for sure what to do". Call Sam Pitman- TODAY and at least attempt to fix the damn line
    • to allow an OC to not even half's attempt to attack one of the weakest units in the entire country (Ole Miss run D) is coaching malpractice. You're on the sidelines with a headset on and everyone answers to you. To let that abomination continue to happen is no different than Les constantly running JJ into a stacked box on 1/9/12.
    • if Nuss is hurt (as the entire planet is assuming by what we see and have heard since camp), then why the hell is he still playing, running sneaks, etc.? if Nuss is not hurt, then what the hell is wrong with him?

Friend sent this to me, Scarborough harsh on Nuss saying he's not hurt and the problem is he hasn't put in the work:

No idea if he's right.

in case y'all are wondering my thoughts on Kelly back when we were looking for a coach (from our old site):

I saw that from Scarborough and stopped when he said he hasn't been hurt at all.
that and arm strength doesn’t just fall off a cliff in your early 20s.

even if you never even drive in the same town as a gym, you keep at least some semblance that natural gift until at least 30 … barring injury.

I don't know who but someone should hold that whiny B word of a coach of ours and force him to watch that video!

I checked to see if he did the Haka but didn't make it past "7-5, MAYBE 8-4".

I guess tOSU fans gave up after they lost to a shitty Michigan team last year.

TRUST ME, I agree the offense has been ass. But we lost...
1. On the road
2. A one score game
3. In a game the opponent was favored

And now we're going 7-5?

I'd bet it. Any takers?
