Next Head Football Coach of LSU

How about Jeff Brohm at Louisville. He's been solid. Doesn't look spectacular, but he can't recruit that much at Louisville. He was an undrafted free agent, managed to be employed in the NFL for 7 years as a QB. He would not command the money of whale coaches.
I think Brohm was on my list of potentials when we ended up hiring Kelly. I think he was at WKU at the time and really didn't have a 'real school' resume.

I still kind of feel he needs more experience.

I don't think LSU is actually too concerned about the $$. 5 years with the right coach and the revenue bucket will be full.

another guy currently at his Alma Mater

"Jeff Brohm makes a base salary of approximately $5.98 million for the 2025 season, with his six-year contract starting at $5 million in 2023 and increasing annually. His total earnings for the 2025 season are a combination of his base salary, a retention payment, and up to $2 million in potential bonuses. "

He would not be easy to pry out, but nobody you want is going to be easy.

So, I tend to look for options outside of "the usual suspects" that show up in every coaching search article in the land. This list doesn't really reflect "who I want" or "who I think LSU should hire". It's more like a list of possibilities that might not be getting discussed in the media.

  • Paul Chryst - former Pitt and Wisconsin HC.
  • Bob Chesney - HC at James Madison.
  • Matt Patricia - current DC at Ohio State (spent 19 years as a defensive assistant and DC in the NFL as well).
  • Brian Hartline - current OC at Ohio State.
  • Chris Petersen - former Boise State and University of Washington head coach (hired at UW by Scott Woodward when Steve Sarkisian left UW to become USC's HC).
  • Garret Riley - Clemson OC and brother of USC head coach Lincoln Riley.
  • Al Golden - Notre Dame DC and prior HC of Miami Hurricanes.
  • Tony White - Florida State DC.
  • Alonzo Carter - Assistant HC / RB Coach at University of Arizona. (Interestingly, prior to coaching, Carter was the choreographer and lead dancer for MC Hammer in the 1980s and 1990s!)
Because we got burned with Brian Kelly, I think there is a sentiment to NOT empty the bank for a 'name brand' coach like Kiffin or others this time around. Poaching a coach from a tier 1 program is an expensive gamble and my gut tells me the university tries to catch lightning in a bottle like they did with hiring Saban from Michigan State.

That sentiment will only be stronger if LSU winds up footing the full $53 million owed to Kelly, which they likely will now that it appears Kelly has shut down any talks for a settlement.

Lane is a shit show, hope he doesn't come here. At this point I'll take anyone BUT Lane and his alter ego Riley out at uscw! If I had to make the hire given that Saban is probably a no I'm going with Drink!

I wouldn't despise that choice, but he's not very high on my list.
definitely not above Kiffin
Why? He certainly seems more grounded. He has proven results at a far less job than both LSU and Ole Piss! Out of the names that are out there I think he is probably the best option. Lane, if he gets the job will backfire! Just my .02

He checks all the boxes, sound philosophy, coached in the SEC, couple of 10 win seasons, will probably keep most of the defensive staff in place, not a media hound like Kiffin who will be in the news year after year. I don't know what's not to like. We were lucky to beat his team last year!

couple of 10 win seasons at a place that had five 10 win seasons in the previous 12 years before Drink got there.

Kiffin now has four 10 win seasons at a place that's had 1 such season in the previous 17 years.

We were lucky to beat his team last year!

we didn't even play them last year.

Whomever the next coach is, he better bring at least 2 quarterbacks lol

Who you trust in that category?

1. Lane
2. Kenny

Leavitt would likely come with Dilly

Which side of the ball is he elite?

Or do you prefer CEO style coaches?

We were lucky to beat his team last year!

Where did he coach last year??

Yes, we need QBs. By the end of the season we will be down to one scholarship QB (basically there now due to Nuss' injury) and no QBs committed for the 2026 class.
